My attention today was caught by Moritasgus, a god of healing whose name is derived from the Gaulish words for "sea" (or possibly water, muir) and "badger." Make of it what you may, plenty of people have from what I can see. I was searching for a healing god to connect with, and animalistic gods have an unfair advantage in my world, so he stuck out. An indigenous god who was Romanized after the town of Alesia was conquered, his name was paired with Apollo in two of the four inscriptions that are all that remain of his worship. Interest piqued!

So I worked a bit at my altar and a presence that certainly suited a healer god answered my welcome to Moritasgus during devotionals. He was warm, protective, kind and gentle. The overall feeling was of great strength tempered and guided by even greater caring and wisdom. A little bit after I came back upstairs, while in the middle of writing about the encounter, I learned that the concerns that sent me looking for a healing god in the first place appeared to be resolving! May it continue.

I'm sharing it here because I enjoyed this deity very much and wouldn't mind spreading knowledge of him around. He's worthy of some positive attention. The best information about him is on a French website run by a scholar who is understandably prickly toward pagans, so I won't link my research here.
